She’s a solid singer and her voice has a very warm and reassuring quality to it.

Even though it may seem like this track might be targeted to a certain demographic, almost everyone experiences self doubt about their appearance, and we are often are own worst critics. In that sense, Pretty is a song that pretty much everyone can relate to at one time or another, regardless of how they are actually perceived by others. Musically, HEAVEN has a colorful and melodic feel, with a bright, contemporary sound. SUZEN is an incredible vocalist with a dynamic voice. She sings with both emotive passion and excellent discipline. There’s a timeless, “lounge” quality to her performance, which is classic and professional. HEAVEN is powerful on multiple levels and will make you think as well as feel.

All We Are is a new album from Willard Overstreet and the Highborn Kinsmen. This is actually Willard’s third album, and it’s scheduled to be released on 10/29/2021. The sound blends elements of 70’s, 80’s and 90’s rock. Melodic and soulful, the songs on this album have an almost inspirational tone. One distinctive feature is that the band demonstrates a willingness to experiment with the structural compositions. Even though there’s plenty of robust guitar action and energetic vocals, the often unpredictable changes and sections give the music an avant garde sensibility. Tracks like Devil’s Man are a good example of this. With the occasional mystery instrumentals and spoken word interludes, this album is something truly unique, which goes beyond mere rock and roll and does not stylistically confine itself to any single time period or place.

School Time is a new single from Houston-based hip hop artist, Superstar Girl. This youthful prodigy is just 13 years old and already creating tracks that are worthy of her ambitious name. School Time has one of the coolest beats I’ve ever heard in a hip hop jam. It’s vibrant, bouncy, fun and futuristic all at the same time. Superstar Girl performs with enthusiasm and has a natural charisma. The sound is cutting edge but also classy, and really captures the energetic spirit of day-to-day teenage life. There’s just so much potential here. I also recommend checking out the video for School Time. It’s professionally made and as good as anything you’d see from a major contemporary pop star.

Florescence is a new album from Timberline. Bright, colorful and avant garde, this is indie in its finest form. Even the abstract album cover artwork is brimming with quintessential indie innocence. Containing 20 full tracks, this is actually a rather epic release. The sound evokes an early 2000s nostalgia in me, with its quaint electric piano melodies, bright guitars and emotive vocals. I remember when a lot of music was like this, and it was a great period artistically before pop music and social media completely overwhelmed everything.

The music has an analog quality, and you can often hear the “record button” being pressed at the beginning of the songs. There’s also that coveted tape hiss, which adds warmth to the sound, and gives the ambiance a more personal, intimate vibe. The tracks feature delicate melodies and sincere performances. My favorite jam on this release is Flannel. With its Wurlitzer-like piano tones and quaint mix, it just has a very classic feel. I honestly dig everything about this album: the style, the music, and the substance.

Set to be released in November 2021, Big Ass Deal is a new album from Minnesota-based band, West of Corey. I’ve reviewed this group before, and one thing I immediately recognized was the powerful vocals of Stacey Squires. Her expressive voice truly represents a force of nature and pushes these songs to their limits.

Crisp, loud guitars and fresh basslines provide a husky, skeletal framework to the mix, basically amplifying what could be acoustic or lounge rock into music that could fill a stadium. However, the touching track Tears On My Sleeve dials it back a few notches, showing a quietly sentimental side. Big Ass Deal is an apt name for this album. This band brings a big sound and even when they opt for softer melodies, still hold nothing back.

Songs From The Land is a new album from Luis Mojica. This is another one of those releases that falls somewhere between folk rock, country, and Americana. Dynamic vocals drive much of the action, as Luis really has a unique vocal style. He squeezes an impressive amount of melodic juice out of every word, giving a performance that goes above and beyond what anyone would expect. His lyrical delivery is poetic and skillful. When he really gets on a roll, you wonder how he swims through it so continuously without ever needing to stop and come up for air.

The backing music has a deliberate beat and maintains a certain intensity, even it its unassuming, melodic form. There’s real energy and suspense here, particularly on tracks like Colonized. The music itself is quite good, but Songs From The Land also has personality.

Gabriel is a new album from Sydney, Australia-based singer/songwriter, Jack Nolan. Featuring a stylish sound that combines excellent audio clarity with folkish sincerity and top notch musicianship, this release is truly a cut above. The title track also happens to be my favorite jam on the album, with its catchy chorus (” Gabriellll can you telllll“) and harmonic vocal duet. It’s one of those songs where you recognize it’s an instant classic the moment you hear it.

Thematically, the album deals with reflections on life and contains a great deal of contemplative soul-searching. There are romantic undertones as well, and the Americana ambiance can be delightfully haunting. Faster Than the Speed of Change is another memorable track. Despite the “minimalist mix, the sound is surprisingly robust and full, owing to the quietly charismatic vocal performances and “bellowingly” quaint guitar riffs. Ultimately, Gabriel embodies the best aspects of what one might call the 21st century Nashville oriented sound.
